Renault Megane Dynamique

Dynamique style from Renault

Renault has long been known for generous specification, safety features, attractive design, and keen pricing. The latest Megane range is a good example of these ingredients coming together to produce great value for money models in a market sector that is highly competitive.

A popular choice from an extensive Megane range is a version I have recently been driving recently, the Dynamique TomTom with 1.6 litre petrol engine offering 110 hp, and priced at £16,580.

Standard features include keyless entry, cruise control, alloys, auto lights and wipers, power front windows and TomTom sat-nav, and radio/CD/MPs player.

It’s an impressive package especially when you consider the very competitive price tag, and you also get the space and practicality of a great-looking  5-seater hatchback.

Visual styling is sporty rather coupe-like from the side view. A sharper nose and large under bumper air intake grille help provide a potent road stance.

Renault has been on mission to improve quality and latest models are noticeably improved in the feel and solidity of the materials used. This is especially the case inside the Megane and even the switches and controls have a more positive feel and action in their operation. The seats are well-designed, offering long-distance comfort and plenty of back support.

The car is roomy front and rear, and offers very good bootspace accessed by a large tailgate. While having a sporty profile, this Megane comes across as a very versatile day-to-day family car.

The overall exterior and interior styling is impressive and can turn heads, and the driving experience matches the look, with a smooth dynamic road feel. Top speed is 118 mph, the 0-60 mpg time is 10.5 seconds and the combined fuel economy 40 mpg.

Ride quality is beyond reproach, supple for comfort yet offering just the right among of firmness for twisty roads and safe handling.

FOR: Visual style, good level of standard equipment, fluent driving feel.

AGAINST: Fascia styling looks rather dull.
